Description - Guesthouse

Berber hospitality at a comfortable guest house in a serene mountain setting in the Toubkal National Park. Run by friendly staff from the local hamlet. Located at 1300 metres above sea level. Roaring log fires in autumn, winter and spring. Plunge pool in summer.

Built in traditional style employing local craftsmen and materials. Owners promote eco-tourism and assist in conservation of the National Park. Only 1 hour 20 mins from Marrakech and within easy reach of some of Morocco's most scenic valleys and gorges.

Ideal base for trekking in a quiet corner of the park near a sanctuary for Barbary Sheep. Fantastic situation with stunning views from the picture window in the lounge and from large roof terrace.

Activities: Trekking, walking and horse-riding in the area. Dar Tassa is beautifully remote and accessed by an unmade road: it is a 20 minute drive off the main road. We can pre-book excellent English speaking local trekking guides. Resident experts can help you to spot the Barbary Sheep in the Takkerkhort Reserve. Option to travel over the spectacular Tiz n Test Pass to Taroudant.

Neighborhood

Dar Tassa resides in the shadow of the Takherkhort Reserve, a sanctuary for Toubkal's most noble species, the Barbary Sheep. The Amaseen gazelle reserve, a must see in neighboring Marigha, promises this regal endangered species will have fighting chance to restore its declining population. Be sure to bring your binoculars, as over 150 species of bird - from the Grey Partridge to the Alpine Accentor and Chough - make their nest among the Park's natural wonders. And if you should decide to set out on a flora and fauna discovery trek.

Ouirgane is a very small town in a wonderful setting in the High Atlas, between Marrakech & Taroudant. A good base for guided walks or treks into the surrounding area which includes some spectacular gorges. Only 1 hour from Marrakech.

the High Atlas & the Toubkal national park are famous for their climate and scenery of high peaks, (snowcapped in winter), cultivated valleys, remote Berber villages, streams and waterfalls. Both offer superb walking and trekking opportunities all year round but, if you want to scale the higher peaks, March - November only.

How to get there

The 69 km drive to Dar Tassa normally takes around 1 hour 20 minutes from Marrakech. You can buy water, snacks, fresh fruit and other supplies en route.

The first part of the journey follows a generally straight road (R203) to the town of Tahanoute before slowly winding up through the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains.

You then pass through the lively Berber town of Asni and continue on the R203 road which leads to the Tizi n’Test Pass and Taroudant.

At the small village of Marigha (before entering Ouirgane) look for a signpost to Dar Tassa pointing left (after the second mosque).

Here turn left onto a dirt / gravel road (which is accessible to hire cars if driven slowly) and after 6 km you will reach Douar Tassa village.

Once in the village follow the signs to Dar Tassa which is the last building as you continue along the track above the valley. There is a small car park at Dar Tassa.
